Theme of 'Distant Waves'

I think the theme of my bookclub book, Distant Waves is to never give up on someone.

I think this because near the end of the story, Jane, the main character, almost loses faith that her sister, Mimi, and her fiancee, Thad, died after the Titanic sank. However, several months later, Mimi and Thad are found drifting on a door in a sea near Germany.

Also, earlier on in the book, when Mimi disappears to go with Ninette and Mr. Guggenheim to Europe as their assistant, Jane's family begin to lose hope that their oldest child/sibling will ever speak to them again. However, they run into each other when Jane's family is invited to a meeting for mediums, or people who speak to the dead.

I think Mimi is my favorite character from my book club book because she is brave and stubborn.

Mimi is brave because she left Spirit Vale, where she lived, to travel to Europe to be an assistant to a rich woman. She neglected to tell her mother, and I think this is brave because if I decided to run off somewhere without telling anyone in my house, my mother would order me back immediately. While in the story, Mimi gets away with this.

Mimi is stubborn because when Jane, her younger sister, tried to convince her to stay with her and their mother and sisters back in Spirit Vale, Mimi was stubborn and refused, saying that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Europe and wear 'high-fashion' clothes.

My favorite character

I would have to say my favorite character is Jordan Woods from the book Catching Jordan by Miranda Keneally. I say she is my favorite character because she is stubborn, honest, and different. She is stubborn because in this book she has various fights with her dad about whether or not she has a future in football or not. Even though she is her high school football team's quarterback, her dad, a player for the NFL, doesn't believe she has a safe future in the world of sports. She is honest because she is not afraid to express her feelings to anyone, especially when she has a big opinion in something that happens. Last, she is different both physically and socially. Unlike most girls in Jordan's school, she is almost six foot and is built like a football player. She does not like to hang out with other girls, except for a few on the cheer squad. These traits relate to me in ways some characters in other books I've read can't.

In addition, during the story, Jordan changed tremendously. At the beginning of the story, she only cared about her future with football and her teammates. Nearing the end of the story, she changed into a girl who cared about having girl friends too, and wasn't completely wrapped up in having everything involve football.

            My favorite book series is Delirium series by Lauren Oliver. I like this series because it has so many colorful characters and an awesome plot with every book. For example, once the author introduces a new character, she has an incredible ability to really get you to know the character really well.

            I like realistic fiction, fantasy, and horror/paranormal books. They seem to have the most interesting, creative, and relatable plots and characters.

            The last book I read was Airhead by Meg Cabot. This book was about an average girl named Emerson Watts, a junior at one of the most prestigious academic schools in New York, Tribeca Alternative High. She is a straight-A student, and she has but only one friend, Christopher. When Emerson and Christopher take Emerson’s little sister Frieda to the grand opening of the new Stark megamall, a TV almost falls onto Frieda, but Emerson shoves her out of the way in time and takes the blow herself. A month later, Emerson comes to full consciousness in a hospital where she learns she had a brain transplant with Nikki Howard, a superstar teen model, whom of which died from an aneurism at the time of Emerson’s death. Emerson begins to learn what it is really like to always be talked to, have her photo taken every two seconds, and how one thing can mess up everything. After a few weeks of living as Nikki Howard, Emerson tries to reconnect with Christopher. This proves to be difficult because Christopher does not know she is really the Emerson Watts Christopher knows and loves, and she cannot tell him because of her contract with the Stark company, the one who caused the trouble in the first place.
